party food

The rest of Saturday was dedicated to making food for Iris’s first birthday party.  I ate lots of frosting.  I had the leftovers from that not-so-good broccoli and sausage thing and it was actually better the second time around.  For dinner, knowing we had a long night of cake baking ahead of us, we had grilled cheese and tomato sandwiches and salads-very quick.

On Sunday we had a fun party at the park for Iris because she turned one year old.  I made a tortellini and asparagus salad.  I should not have tried the frozen asparagus.  Too stringy, too limp.  I also made a corn, black bean, and tomato salad and it was pretty good.

Then there was a chocolate cake and a yellow cake and I will post photos of these.  Matt and I had a lovely time together Saturday night, making these and drinking wine and feeling excited about having a little family.

Sunday morning, while I was finishing things, I think I had some toast and coffee.  It was a harried time.  Dinner, after the party, we had leftovers from the picnic and then of course, more cake.

Iris had her first serious sugar on her birthday.  She repeatedly stuck her finger in the frosting in this dainty way and licked it off.  She quickly lost interest, however.  Too many balloons to stare at.
